FAQS
How long does an online therapy session last?
We will meet together for 60 minutes during regular sessions. If you are a new client, our first session together will be for 75 minutes to allow extra time for your questions and getting to know each other.
How long will I need therapy?
This varies for everyone. Sometimes you just need to talk things through a couple of times and that is sufficient. For others, there is a preference for weekly meetings. You will decide what is best for you. You may "come and go" from regular meeting times, just scheduling sessions as needed.
Talk? I can talk to a friend for free - why pay someone?
You're quite right. If you have a wise and understanding friend who is willing to listen to your problems, you may not need professional help at all. But often that's not enough. You may need a professionally trained person to help you uncover what's really bothering you. Your friend may not have the skills to do this.
I have a sense that I need to talk to someone but I have no idea what to say or where to start.
This is not uncommon and I am trained and experienced in helping you figure out where to start. Often people are concerned about touching on sensitive areas they do not yet feel ready to tackle. It is important for you to feel comfortable and to trust me. We will go at a pace that feels right for you.
I am not comfortable with change. Will therapy force me into change?
We are all uncomfortable with change. It pulls us out of our comfort zone and creates some anxiety about what this change will mean to us and if we can handle it. However, we all know the timeless saying that the only constant in life is change. It's coming at us all the time. So learning to navigate change in the way that serves you best is a really important skill and a necessity to a happier life. Whether you want a change or something in life is forcing one upon you, make sure you manage it in a healthy and successful way.
